It’s ironic, isn’t it, how setting limits can open up so many possibilities? This season, we found inspiration in a concise palette of black, white, and olive.
In leathers, bouclés, finer wools and silks, olive is suddenly non-casual, polished. Against white, the military tone looks sharp and refined; with black, it takes on a moodier, more subtle aspect. A thick-ribbed sweater paired with a sharply knife-pleated leather skirt is subtle yet pleasing, as is a sweater—worn as a scarf—playing off a silky dress in the same hue.
For outerwear, we’re interested in the decade-spanning soft belted shape and the transformative feel of heat-pressed Italian wool (it’s nearly astrakhan). Of course, the importance of the boot can’t be overstated: Whether knee-length, mid-calf or ankle grazing, it effortlessly pulls a look together—which is sort of limit setting and limit erasing in itself, isn’t it?
